IoT has been the center of many tech conversations for the past few years. There have been a massive following for IoT development and many emerging startups wishes to have a piece of IoT. But what exactly is IoT, and why is it creating such a buzz in the tech community? We explain.

In the past decades, the internet consisted of several computers (PC, laptops, smartphones) connected with each other over a wide area. Things were pretty simple back then. What IoT does is that it allows Everyday things like bulb, fridge, door, plants, etc to be part of the internet. That is why it is called Internet of Things or simply IoT.

The possibilities of IoT technology are just limitless. Each and every day new innovative and creative products and solutions are coming out based on IoT. a crazy example would be a flower plant in a pot that would actually tweet to twitter “I’m feeling thirsty” if the water level becomes too low. This is just a small example of how fascinating the IoT technology really is.

Smart Homes

IoT is slowly becoming a part of our lives. There are already smart home appliances available in the market. You would be even more surprised to know that “smart homes” was one of the most searched keywords in Google in the year 2018. Light Bulbs and cooling fans that can be controlled over smartphones through internet are indeed IoT devices. Soon enough, every home will be converted into smart homes.

Industries

The IoT dominance just doesn’t stop there. Industries are already implementing various sorts of sensors on their tools and machinery to get the real-time insights of the machinery they use. In fact, there is a separate branch entirely focused on industries called IIoT aka, Industrial Internet of Things.

Agriculture

Smart IoT applications in agriculture will ensure the crops are getting the right amount of water and fertilizers for them. Farmers will be able to monitor the status of their crops remotely using the IoT technology. The advanced application may include automating the water supply by monitoring the water content in the soil. This may significantly reduce a lot of human labour and human errors in miscalculation.

Automobile

Automobile Industry is currently experiencing major waves in IoT technology. Most automobile manufactures have already implemented IoT with lots and lots of sensors that will give you insights like tyre pressure, vehicle location, engine condition, car lock and much more.

Healthcare

Healthcare is yet receiving the full potential of IoT technology. If implemented the right way, smart medical devices will be able to communicate with health care systems, allowing critical actions and medication courses to be taken at the right time. It will undoubtedly result in a significant jump in the average human life expectancy and overall health.

Final Words

IoT is an amazing technology and it is here to stay. The future would be so brilliant with more and more “things” becoming the part of the internet. soon people would start communicating with the everyday things like they normally do with other people. We will just have to wait and see where the IoT will take us in the future.
